According to the Migraine Research Foundation migraines affect approximately 39 million men and women in the United States. Worldwide it affects about 1 billion people. Migraines are a debilitating neurological disease defined by incapacitating pain.
The Mayo Clinic notes that migraines are not clearly understood. The Mayo Clinic also states that taking painkillers for migraines over a period of time can lead to medication overuse headaches. Many common medications including painkillers also carry some adverse effects.

Before we begin to go over some interesting research lets take a look at some other natural solutions to consider. I wrote some previous posts on Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Fibromyalgia that are both referenced in the same research study. There are some similar natural solutions (including new technology) that can help you along the way.
Diet modifications can be helpful. More than likely you may have read about this previously. However there are new tests that can help you individualize your diet. This simply means that everyone’s body chemistry is unique. Some testing that is now available can help identify certain types of foods that may trigger abnormalities in your body.
This can lead to things such as pain, inflammation, Gastrointestinal Disorders and more. These aren’t food allergies, but food sensitivities. Food Sensitivity tests can be performed with a simple blood draw. It can help you identify your specific food sensitivities and allow you to make diet modifications (reports & diet plans can be provided).
Food Sensitivity Test Can Reveal Potential Underlying Clues
Food sensitivity tests have their pros and cons. A major pro is its personalized reports. It will give you data specific to your individual body chemistry. It will also provide guidance on which foods to avoid and how to remove or incorporate them back into your diet.
A con would be that it is an extra cost. Depending on the level of sophistication of the test it will cost more or less. Generally speaking if you want a more comprehensive test (comparing it to a larger group of foods) it will cost more. If you compare it to a smaller group it should be less.
A less sophisticated option may be to look at the blood typing diet. There is no testing involved but there was a book written years back that basically profiled blood types. Blood types were researched to certain illness and diseases etc. Long story short certain blood types had a predisposition to certain illnesses and also may have potential adverse reactions to certains types of food. Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency – A Cause For Migraines?
Now we get to the interesting research. I asked earlier in this post, is there a potential underlying cause for migraines? It is a disease that is not understood well. Perhaps if the underlying cause can be identified it can help give relief to those that suffer from the debilitating pain.
Your endocannabinoid system is a receptor system in your body that controls a variety of different functions. It includes mood, appetite, immune response, sleep to name a few. It is composed of your central nervous systems and peripheral organs. If it falls out of proper balance then you may have symptoms such as restlessness, anxiety, pain.
Some recent research was revealed to show that a theory known as Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency now has some strong clinical data to support it. It also revealed that research supports it in Migraine, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other treatment resistant disorders.
