Suffer From Debilitating Migraines? Can CBD Help With That?

An active health and wellness guru, Ben enjoys researching, learning and sharing his insight with others. After trying CBD Oil and seeing how well it benefited him, he decided to begin a quest to share the insight with others.

According to the Migraine Research Foundation migraines affect approximately 39 million men and women in the United States.  Worldwide it affects about 1 billion people.  Migraines are a debilitating neurological disease defined by incapacitating pain.

The Mayo Clinic notes that migraines are not clearly understood.  The Mayo Clinic also states that taking painkillers for migraines over a period of time can lead to medication overuse headaches.  Many common medications including painkillers also carry some adverse effects.

Is there a underlying cause to migraines?

Is there a way to relieve the symptoms associated with migraines?

Can this be done safely and more naturally?

Some new clinical research has now revealed that a deficiency within your endocannabinoid systems could lead to migraines.  Additionally, how does CBD oil fit into the puzzle?  Can the information from the studies show that CBD can help relieve the pain associated with migraines? What else can you do?

Let’s take a look and learn more.

Some Other Natural Relief Options To Consider

Before we begin to go over some interesting research lets take a look at some other natural solutions to consider.  I wrote some previous posts on Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Fibromyalgia that are both referenced in the same research study.  There are some similar natural solutions (including new technology) that can help you along the way.

Diet modifications can be helpful.  More than likely you may have read about this previously. However there are new tests that can help you individualize your diet.  This simply means that everyone’s body chemistry is unique. Some testing that is now available can help identify certain types of foods that may trigger abnormalities in your body.

This can lead to things such as pain, inflammation, Gastrointestinal Disorders and more.  These aren’t food allergies, but food sensitivities. Food Sensitivity tests can be performed with a simple blood draw.  It can help you identify your specific food sensitivities and allow you to make diet modifications (reports & diet plans can be provided).

Food Sensitivity Test Can Reveal Potential Underlying Clues

Food sensitivity tests have their pros and cons.  A major pro is its personalized reports. It will give you data specific to your individual body chemistry.  It will also provide guidance on which foods to avoid and how to remove or incorporate them back into your diet.

A con would be that it is an extra cost. Depending on the level of sophistication of the test it will cost more or less.  Generally speaking if you want a more comprehensive test (comparing it to a larger group of foods) it will cost more. If you compare it to a smaller group it should be less.

A less sophisticated option may be to look at the blood typing diet.  There is no testing involved but there was a book written years back that basically profiled blood types.  Blood types were researched to certain illness and diseases etc. Long story short certain blood types had a predisposition to certain illnesses and also may have potential adverse reactions to certains types of food.  I go into a little more detail and with a list of the pros & cons on the Fibromyalgia post which you can read here.

Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency – A Cause For Migraines?

Now we get to the interesting research.  I asked earlier in this post, is there a potential underlying cause for migraines?  It is a disease that is not understood well. Perhaps if the underlying cause can be identified it can help give relief to those that suffer from the debilitating pain.

Your endocannabinoid system is a receptor system in your body that controls a variety of different functions.  It includes mood, appetite, immune response, sleep to name a few. It is composed of your central nervous systems and peripheral organs.  If it falls out of proper balance then you may have symptoms such as restlessness, anxiety, pain.

Some recent research was revealed to show that a theory known as Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency now has some strong clinical data to support it.  It also revealed that research supports it in Migraine, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and other treatment resistant disorders.

All of these disorders are not fully understood, and difficult to treat.  It is also not uncommon for patients to suffer from all three.  You can read to entire study below:

Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency Reconsidered: Current Research Supports the Theory in Migraine, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel, and Other Treatment-Resistant Syndromes

Since there is data showing that a deficiency within the Endocannabinoid System can potentially lead to disorders such as migraines.  How do we correct the deficiency? CBD Oil (cannabidiol) helps to fill in for the potential deficiencies within the endocannabinoid system.

CBD integrates with your endocannabinoid system to bring it back into proper balance.  Once there is a balance within your endocannabinoid system symptoms can be potentially resolved.

This peer review study references how cannabinoids such as CBD continue to have accumulating evidence to support its therapeutic beneficial use for pain, headaches and migraines.

CBD Oil Looks Interesting, What Do I Need To Do?

Fortunately I have posted a number of articles on this site to help you get started.  My post on “ How To Use CBD Oil For Pain | Here Is What You Need To Know” has some helpful guidance, you should read it over.

Speak with your medical provider.  Be sure to also select quality CBD oilFailure to do so can lead to potential toxins in your CBD product.  There are some good CBD companies.  Some that are not so much. Here are CBD products that I use that come from USDA certified farms.

Before you begin realize that everyone’s body chemistry is slightly different.  You may not always see immediate results. You will need to develop your own personal dosing (start low and slow).  See post below. It will help cover some details on getting started.

As I mentioned in the above post, you will need to start low and gradually increase.  Secondly, you will also keep notes to develop your personalized dose. Your notes will help on any of your follow-up visits with your medical provider.  This will help you to decide on if CBD is right and effective for you.
