Understanding CBD Oil – The Ultimate Cheat Sheet

There is a growing interest in CBD Oil. Now that you are beginning to hear about it there are many questions that arise. Some details can be confusing and it can be difficult to understand CBD Oil. The origins of CBD Oil (Cannabidiol), its uses and how it affects the human body are fascinating.

Let’s break down all the technical details into something more simple so that we can get a greater understanding of the positive benefits and uses of CBD Oil.

The Origins of CBD Oil

CBD FormulationCBD Oil (Cannabidiol) is one of the many compounds that are present in the cannabis sativa plant. The two more commonly known compounds are THC and CBD. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive component whereas CBD is not (it will NOT make you high).

Most may immediately connect the cannabis sativa plant with marijuana exclusively, however its cousin Hemp is also part of the same family.

Both plants contain a variety of compounds but marijuana has higher quantity of THC which does cause the psychoactive high. However, Hemp has very low levels of THC and is a much more fibrous plant and its uses are more industrial and not for recreational drug use.

==> Hemp is an extremely useful and versatile plant. Take the time to read my recent post about Hemp.

Hemp contains a greater amount of CBD vs THC and is more commonly used for CBD Oil production VS marijuana. Typically, the Marijuana plant may be raised and cultivated to increase levels of THC vs CBD.

Generally its primary purpose is recreational drugs use. Now this isn’t saying that it has no medicinal use. It certainly does, however simply for the topic of conversation here the greater interest and production with marijuana leans more heavily on the recreational side.

Science has led to high tech cultivation of plants to increase or decrease certain levels of compounds to give certain qualities. Purchasing CBD Oil would more than likely come from Hemp plants. Also, since hemp production has now been made legal in the US chances are local farmers are producing it.

The Endocannabinoid System and CBD Oil

The very interesting part of the story is the endocannabinoid system within the human body and how CBD Oil works in conjunction with it. Chances are that you may have not heard of the endocannabinoid system at all (or just recently).

In fact not too long ago I was going to apply to a Doctorate Program in which I had to go back and get a number of science prerequisites in order to apply (my original educational background was in business). The endocannabinoid system was not part of the two levels of anatomy and physiology that I had to take.

Simply stated this is the biological system in your body in which neurotransmitters connect with your central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nervous system (nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord). They bind with receptors in your body. The neurotransmitters are called endocannabinoids.

There are 2 primary endocannabinoid receptors in the body which include the Cannabinoid
Receptor Type 1 (CB1 Receptor) and the Cannabinoid Receptor Type 2 (CB2 Receptor).

Some confusing parts come with the language and wording when you see cannabinoids. I know you may look at it much as I once did and make the association with cannabinoids and cannabis.

Understanding Cannabinoids

Here are some key things to know. Your body produces its own cannabinoids which are called endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids which are plant based are called Phytocannabinoids.

Endocannabinoids are produced naturally in the body. (Endo meaning internal, or within
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/endo-?s=t )

Phytocannabinoids are plant based and found in plants. (Phyto meaning plant
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/phyto- )

The cannabinoids are transmitted throughout the body and received by the CB1 and CB2 Receptors. The CB1 Receptor and CB2 Receptors control how the body communicates with the nervous system and organs.

Things such as immune response, inflammation, anxiety related behaviors, sleep and much more. For example, by understanding how an anxiety condition occurs within the body biochemistry we can be better able to treat it.  See the potential possibilities here?

The fascinating science is how CBD Oil has been found to work in conjunction with the system and the human body. This has led to research supporting it how it has been found to be beneficial in treating a variety of different conditions.

CBD Oil, The Human Body and The Future

The functions of the human body are captivating. With all the advances in science and medicine researchers continue to learn more about how the body operates. Understanding the complex biochemistry allows us to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions.

Many medical breakthroughs have been made in the last few decades but now even more complex systems has been discovered and just now being explored.

The relative new discovery of the endocannabinoid system now opens the door to broad possibilities of further understanding the human body and its functions. Recent research with CBD Oil has shown that its conjunction with the endocannabinoid system has been effective to treat a variety of different conditions. The research and findings with CBD Oil have shown value and promise as more research is underway to unlock its secrets.
